DOLFINA College of Lucidity Live Linux CD Projects

DOLFINA has supported Mandrake, now Mandriva, Linux since 1998. In the course over time, we have used small bootable linux versions such as Toms Root Boot floppy for emergencies. Over that period we have discovered Knoppix and have used it on and off since 2003. In the last two years, the Live Linux CD projects on the internet have become extensive, intensive, and now are effective as linux alternatives for users who are not interested in a full install, emergency uses, and now multimedia, web design and pc programming projects as well as kiosks.

An average user can use Knoppix as well as an Experienced Geakazoid.

DOLFINA has chosen to use Knoppix as a base for experimentation with DSL, a 50 MB cast version of Knoppix. We have found that DSL is an appropriate version to keep the Live Linux CD simple and easy to use. Our goal and hope is that we can re-use older machines which are powerful enough yet dormant for our members and staff.

To begin using Knoppix, we recmmend the book Knowing Knoppix and for advanced users Knoppix Hacks

For Super Geaks, we are interested in coordinating projects to embedd Forth Compilers into Knoppix, and eventually DSL. Please keep that in mind if you are a Forther
